Caramel Subspecies Sugar Gliders

Caramel Sugar Gliders are a special subspecies of sugar glider that were recently imported into the United States in 2009. Caramels were wild caught in Merauke, on the island of Irian Jaya. Many people refer to Caramels as a sugar glider color, but in fact their look is the normal look for this subspecies from Merauke. We do not know exactly what subspecies these are, but we do know they are incompatible with all of our Standard Grey varieties currently in the Unites States. When you mix a caramel with any standard grey color variety, the result is sterile males. The females from these pairings will also continue to produce sterile males for several generations.

Standard grey sugar gliders are your most common "everyday" sugar glider that you will see. These gliders are comprised of multiple different subspecies that have been bred together throughout the years. These species were compatible with each other, unlike the caramels. All of the beautiful colors we enjoy today, are all genetic variations of the standard grey sugar glider.

White Face

White face sugar gliders are one of the first color variations to pop up in captive breeding programs. White faces, abbreviated as WF, are characterized by a lightern face and missing black bars under the ears. White faces can come in ever color variety, both light and dark. You may also see them written as WFB(white face blonde)  which was the original name as most WF's were rather light colored.
